A phone that charges slowly, only at an angle or not at all usually has one of two problems: a worn battery or a damaged charging port. They look similar, but the signs are different.
Signs of a worn battery
- The percentage drops fast or jumps from 30% to 5%.
- The phone shuts off even when the screen says there is charge left.
- The phone gets hot while idle or the back looks lifted.
If the case looks swollen, stop charging the phone and bring it in. A swollen battery should not be used.
Signs of a charging port problem
- The cable feels loose or only works when you hold it at an angle.
- Charging starts and stops by itself.
- You can see lint or dirt inside the port.
Quick checks before you book
- Try a different cable and a different wall adapter.
- Restart the phone.
- Look into the port with a torch. Remove loose lint gently with a wooden or plastic pick, never metal.
If it still does not charge, a technician can test the port and the battery. See our repair services or book a home visit and we come to you.
