If your PlayStation, Xbox or Nintendo Switch gets very hot, the fan roars or the game suddenly turns off, the console is probably overheating.
Common causes
- Dust blocking the vents and fan.
- Old thermal paste on the processor.
- Poor airflow, for example a closed cabinet.
- A fan that is worn out.
What to try
- Move the console to an open space with room around the vents.
- Turn it off and let it cool before you play again.
- Gently remove dust from the outside vents with a soft brush.
When to get it serviced
If the fan is still loud or the console keeps shutting down, a clean and a thermal paste refresh usually solves it. See our game console repair options, or book a home visit.
